This is a very simple, very short, book. In fact the author felt he had to "fatten" it up because the first version was so short and simple.But, short and simple as it is; it's essentially one little trick, I think it's well worth the money. It's a trick no trumpet teacher taught me, no trumpet discussion forum I've read has talked about, and which I may or may not have discovered on my own, probably not.So to me, the money for this book was money well-spent. If I had the chance to talk and get advice from an accomplished trumpet player - including showing me a very cool, helpful trick - with the only cost to me being buying him an inexpensive lunch, I'd jump at the chance. That's what this little book amounts to.
Simple and clear guide to chop muscle development. I was surprised how quickly the muscles of the embouchure were exhausted by the prescribed exercises - while always in a great playing position. I have a feeling that this is going to be quite helpful to me
This is a fantastic book and technique! A quick read, explained very well. I have very limited time to play my trumpet - over the last month I have had zero time. But I could do this easily, driving to work in the morning, at lunch, & driving back each day. After a month of doing only this I finally picked up my trumpet and was amazed! My chops are actually in really good shape! I used to buzz my mouthpiece on the way to work & on the way home. It was better than nothing, but doing this is TONS BETTER!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for anyone who needs to keep their chops in shape! Great job, David!!!!!
This is an excellent book! I have played trumpet for multiple decades, and this exercise has positively changed how I approach playing. The book is concise and explains the exercise in an easy to understand manner. After trying this exercise for 2 weeks, I am playing with more confidence, range, and endurance. It truly feels like it is making the key muscles stronger to enable me to play longer. I highly recommend this book.
I have been playing trombone for 25 years; I also work a full time desk joband practicing on my lunch hours is not that easy; for me these exercises arethe difference between struggling and having fun playing!After doing this exercise for just 2 days, (about 20 reps) my stamina increasednoticibly, and at the end of my next gig I still had power.I have buzzed mouthpieces for years and even learned to buzz without a mouthpiece,but more than any single aspect of horn practicing this method can change what's possiblein short order!Jackie Sauriol, Portland, OR
It's true. Two weeks later and I'm already seeing improvements in my endurance. I wish I had read this little book twenty years ago.
Everything he says makes sense. Now to try it... should be good exercise either way for those of use who travel alot.
Good book for novice to advanced, lots of common sense info. Price is right....
