Not an introduction to programming, but a great insight as to compiler management as opposed to source code.Note this applies to Microsoft's .NET Framework and the CLI (Common Language Infrastructure) related languages.

5 stars because it was very informative and well written.I would recommend this to anyone experienced in .net and wishes to advance their skills in creating more reusable code.

Good book, some content needs to be reworked.Spending half chapter to implement debugging is one of them.Not caching the reflection and comparing it to Emit cached is misinforming.Code could be simpler, too much cleverness.Still very good book on the subject.

Well organized. A wealth of information & references.

I've always been a big believer in code generators and have written many in the past. One offs and production tools for our products. This book covers lots of tools and techniques for building code generators. It delves into many different tools and techniques and gives good examples of each. I loved reading it and I now have many more useful tools to use when tackling .Net problems.

It's not common to our-days to get a book of this kind. Thanks to the author. I wish to read more from him.

I picked up this book just because it sounded 'meta' - writing code that writes code. I'm very glad I read through this book. This book provides amazing details on some of the lesser known aspects of .net like CodeDOM, Reflection.Emit, IL rewriting etc.The chapters on CodeDOM (4th) and DLR (8th) are top-notch since they are packed with so much information. This book is probably (IMHO) the best documentation for Expressions and their usage. I'm sure to come back and refer this chapter in future.I would've preferred more details on the IL and their opcodes as they are referenced many times in the book.Though this book is not for beginners, the author's simple and clear language allows anyone with about 5yrs of .net experience to read the book.

This is a great book, and actually went into a lot more low-level detail than what I was expecting. Unfortunately the low-level detail is also why I gave the book 4 stars, as I'm still struggling to find practical applications for some of the ideas and examples presented by the authors. I think on a day to day basis I use System.Reflection and System.Linq.Expressions significantly more than anything else covered in this book, and it was a little light on both topics in my opinion, but your mileage may vary. That aside, it was still a great book covering a lot of topics I wasn't very familiar with, and gaining that exposure and knowledge alone was well worth the price!

The Last Time We Say Goodbye is wonderful in its simplicity, and serves as a tribute to those who are left behind. While it is a heartbreaking read, at the same time, it reminds everyone reading the importance of paying attention and remembering that you never know when the last time you see or speak to someone will be. Put simply, this novel makes you think. And that is where the true beauty lies.Lex, our main character, is extremely strong, even if she doesn't think so. She must find a way to deal with her brother's suicide and find a way to move on. And this is exactly what she does. This isn't a love story, where Lex meets a guy that shows her there's more to life than dwelling on the event that happened 3 months ago. This is the story about a girl who finds herself, and gets through this incredibly difficult situation on her own. Along the way she realizes that she isn't alone, and that getting to that place where everything she is feeling is a bit more manageable takes time.This is a deep novel that is full of heartfelt and touching moments. While it won't be the easiest novel to read as it is a tearjerker, it is worth it in every single way. This is an absolute must-read, so don't put this one off!Happy reading :)

When I read the cover to your book I thought to myself that I might be hurt or cause myself pain by reading this fictional plot/storyline. I was immediately drawn into your descriptions, words and emotions. I kept reading because I could not put down your book, your words. I know in the end that you stated very clearly that the book is not your life but the words you wrote, the feelings you expressed are those of a survivor of suicide. I ended up crying in the end but not until I read your acknowledgement and I realized that you suffered a loss also. Thank you for sharing your heart and your mind.

When you read a book where suicide plays a crucial role in the plot, you go into the novel with the expectation that you are going to feel some things. Maybe a lot of things. You go in knowing that there's a good chance that you are going to cry. You go in with the knowledge that you might get mad. You do not go into the novel with the expectation of not feeling anything.Unfortunately, that is what happened when I read The Last Time We Say Goodbye. From the first line to the last, I can honestly say that my emotions did not change at all throughout the story.I wish there was a few details about the novel that I could hold up and say I really enjoyed but honestly, there was nothing in this book that felt noticeably good enough for me to point out. The characters, for the most part seemed flat. There were a few minor characters here and there that could have possibly been interesting but they were in the book so little that there's no way of knowing. The plot was all over the place. It flitted from one thing to another to yet another and none of it really flowed. It felt like reading a montage of scenes in an outline in an early draft of a novel. That's what reading this felt like. Throw in some suicide statistics and it just completely took me out of any kind of plot flow this novel may have had.

This book was incredibly difficult for me to read, but not because it was poorly written in any way. If anything, it was hard to read because Cynthia Hand writes incredibly well about a grief that I am intimately familiar with. I lost my own younger brother to suicide, and reading this story brought up all of the emotions and pain that goes along with that kind of loss in a very visceral and real way.What strikes me the most about this beautifully written story is how it is not so much about death as it is about forgiveness. Yes, the book centers on the suicide, but it also revolves around Lex’s need to forgive those around her. Not just her brother, but her mother, friends, and herself as well. The story is very dark, but it doesn’t shy away from the grief that Lex experiences.This book is an extremely well written, character-driven story of grief and forgiveness. I highly recommend it.

I'll keep this simple:I have never desired to DO art myself before encountering this book. It simplified so many forms of art by boiling down to its fundamental components, clean and concise. Now I love art and feel no intimidation when approaching forms of art new to me. I've even won some local awards for photography and prints I've done using the guidance of this book and this book only. 100% beginner to awards. I don't know what more I could say. LOVE IT!

The book is for my college class, so that is what caused me to choose this particular one. I enjoy the many photos and explanations of the art, which go into fairly good detail in an easy to understand format. It is very easy to find topics or artists in the index and the dictionary is full of great definitions that come in handy for tests and class discussions. I like this book enough to keep it in my personal library even after the class is over.
